New interview from Today online
LOSTIES, break out your hankies! The sixth and final season of Lost features 18 episodes for you to savour every moment on screen, before all is, well, lost.
It’s been six years since Lost crashed its way into our TV sets and into our hearts. We’ve watched as the survivors struggled for survival on the island, rooted for them as they fought against the Others, cheered as the Oceanic Six escaped the island, and held on for dear life as they travelled back and forth in time.
Like it or not, Lost has definitely made its mark in pop culture. The cult hit has spawned tie-in novels, an official magazine, an alternate reality game, a board game, Lost trading cards and even action figures.
Evangeline Lilly, who plays Kate Austen in the series, talks about the success of Lost (and the possibility of a Lost movie), favourite moments of the season and having pretty middle names.
It has been six years and six seasons of Lost. Are you ready to say goodbye to Kate?I really am ready to say goodbye. And I think a big part of that is that I have been preparing to say goodbye for a while now. I spent the first five months (of this season) just really savouring every single moment. I then transferred into a time of grief and mourning for about the last month or two; in my heart saying goodbye and recognising the sadness of leaving. I’ve made sure to not let this time come and go without giving it its due course.
What has been your favourite moment from this season? For me, it wasn’t during the filming – it was this big, beautiful party that we had as a crew to say goodbye. And people got up to the microphone and talked about what Lost has meant to them, and shared their goodbyes to each other. It was really beautiful, and I think that would probably go down as a significant memory for me.
Why do you think Lost is such a phenomenal success?I think it’s because it appeals to the sensibilities of so many different demographics. There are characters from the show for almost anyone to relate to; and it also deals with really universal things, things like faith and science. I don’t think there are many people in the world who aren’t curious about what it means to be alive and why we’re here on Earth, or if there is a greater purpose to our existence.
Any plans for a Lost movie?I’ve not heard of any plans for that. Oh, who knows, you know? I’m never a gal to look much farther than my nose, so if that were to come up a few years from now, I’d have to look at the question then.
What’s one thing not a lot of people know about you?People probably don’t know that I’m crowdaphobic. Crowds give me panic attacks. And being a “celebrity” or being in the public eye the way I am, it’s a bad combination to be crowdaphobic and to be an actress.
You were born Nicole Evangeline Lilly, but now you choose to go by your middle name. Why is that? Why do I go by my middle name? Because I think it’s prettier. I don’t think Nicole is a very pretty name.

I could imagine reading… Evangeline does what she loves best: Writing children books tucked away in the Canadian Rockies. “I have always been a bit of a recluse” says Evangeline. “after my retirement from the industry this seemed to be the place to be”.
